Daniel Devotional Series – Day 14
The God Who Restores
Scripture
Daniel 4:34–35 (KJV)
“And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me… and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever… and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou?”
Devotional Thought
King Nebuchadnezzar was one of the most powerful rulers in the world. He had wealth, authority, and influence beyond measure. But with that power came pride.
The king began to take credit for everything he had built. He looked at his kingdom and said, “Is not this great Babylon, that I have built… by the might of my power?”
In that moment, he forgot God.
Because of his pride, God humbled him. The king lost his position, his sanity, and his way of life. For a time, he lived like a beast in the field.
But the story doesn’t end there.
One day, Nebuchadnezzar lifted his eyes toward heaven—and everything changed.
His understanding returned. His heart changed. And he began to praise and honor God.
This is the power of restoration.
God didn’t just humble the king—He restored him.
This reminds us that no matter how far someone falls, God is able to bring them back.
Life Application
Pride can quietly enter our lives. We may begin to take credit for what God has done, or forget to acknowledge Him in our success.
But God, in His love, will sometimes allow us to be humbled so that we can be restored.
The good news is this: restoration is always available when we turn back to God.
No matter how far you’ve gone, no matter what mistakes you’ve made—when you lift your eyes back to God, He is ready to restore you.
God’s mercy is greater than our failures.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Help me to walk in humility and never forget that everything I have comes from You. If I ever drift into pride, draw me back to You. Thank You for being a God who restores, forgives, and lifts us up again.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
