Short Bible Study — John 1:5 (KJV)

“And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”

1. Jesus Is the Light

John makes it clear—Jesus doesn’t just bring light.
He IS the Light.
Light represents God’s truth, purity, guidance, and life. Wherever Jesus is, darkness loses its power.

1. The Message Declared

John isn’t sharing an opinion — he’s declaring what was heard directly from Jesus.
This makes the statement absolute: God is light.

2. God’s Nature Revealed

Light in Scripture represents:

  • Truth

  • Purity

  • Holiness

  • Guidance

  • Life

By saying God is light, John is revealing that God’s very nature exposes truth, reveals what’s hidden, and shows the path forward.

3. No Darkness in Him

Darkness symbolizes:

  • Sin

  • Confusion

  • Evil

  • Fear

  • Spiritual blindness

John makes this clear: there is no darkness in God at all.
This is not 99% light and 1% shadow.
It is perfect, complete, eternal light.

4. What This Means for Us

Because God is light:

  • We can trust His guidance.

  • We don’t walk alone in the dark.

  • His presence pushes darkness out of our lives.

  • When His light shines in us, others can see the way to Him.

This is the heart of Christmas:
The Light came down so we could walk in the light.
